Lee Commission Meets on Election Day: Southeast Lee Code Changes, Boca Grande Parking and a $765,000 Marsh Project
While Lee County votes Tuesday, its commission holds a full regular meeting at 9:30 a.m. - putting the contested Southeast Lee County land-code changes into effect, taking public comment on Boca Grande parking rules, and funding the next phase of the Powell Creek marsh restoration.

FORT MYERS - The Lee County Commission will hold its regular meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 - Election Day - with an agenda that reaches from the county's growth fights to its barrier islands, according to the meeting notices and local reporting read by this station Monday. The full agenda is posted on the county's CivicClerk portal.
The headline item puts into effect the Southeast Lee County Community Plan changes the commission adopted on Oct. 21. Tuesday's hearing covers the Land Development Code amendments that implement the plan - the step that turns the adopted policy into enforceable development rules. The October adoption drew sustained public objection, and Calusa Waterkeeper has argued the changes weaken protections in a watershed where large-scale development is proposed; commissioners approved the plan anyway, and Tuesday's code hearing is the public's next formal chance to be heard on how it will work.
Also on the agenda: a public hearing on amending the county parking ordinance for Boca Grande and Gasparilla Island, the barrier-island community where parking pressure has been a running dispute, as reported by the Boca Beacon. And in north Fort Myers, the agenda carries $765,000 in construction funding for the Powell Creek (Del Prado) marsh restoration, a water-quality project on the Caloosahatchee side of the county, the Beacon reported.
The meeting is open to the public at the Old Lee County Courthouse in downtown Fort Myers, and residents can also follow the county's published agenda and documents online. This station will report the votes in Tuesday's evening file.
