Camino de Sanibel Registration Opens: A One-Day Pilgrimage Walk Across the Whole Island, Set for February 27
Registration opened Monday for the Camino de Sanibel, a one-day pilgrimage walk across the entire barrier island hosted by St. Michael's Spiritual Pathways. The walk itself is Saturday, February 27, 2027 — a day of physical challenge, intentional simplicity and self-reflection on the Gulf coast.

Sanibel is getting its own Camino. Registration opened Monday, November 2, for the Camino de Sanibel, a one-day pilgrimage walk that will cross the entire barrier island on foot in early 2027, hosted by St. Michael's Spiritual Pathways. The walk is scheduled for Saturday, February 27, 2027, and is open to residents and visitors alike.
The event is modeled on the pilgrimage tradition its name invokes: a single day's journey on foot across the island, framed by its organizers as an experience of physical challenge, intentional simplicity and self-reflection on Florida's Gulf coast. The Rev. Dr. Sally Haynes serves as the walk's Pilgrimage Director, and she has described the Sanibel walk as a local expression of the same impulse that draws walkers to the historic Camino routes — the road itself, taken slowly and on foot, is the point.
Sanibel Captiva Community Bank is serving as the exclusive corporate sponsor for the morning. The bank, which opened in 2003, has contributed $5 million to more than 400 local charitable causes, according to the organizers' announcement. Registration is open now, nearly four months ahead of the walk — time, the organizers suggest, to train for a full-island crossing.
