John Washington III Says Politicians Who Turned Their Backs on Voters Cannot Ask the People to Save Their Careers
John Washington III argued that elected officials who spent years passing laws he says take money and rights from everyday Americans have no claim on the public's help when the system turns on them: 'You work for us. We don't work for you.'

John Washington III is rejecting the idea that everyday Americans owe embattled politicians their defense. In a public statement, John Washington III said politicians have for years passed laws that, in his words, "take more money from our pockets and strip away our rights," and he questioned why those same officials now expect the public to stand up for them.
"Where were you when we needed you?" he wrote. John Washington III said voters elect officials to fight for them, not to become part of the system he says is hurting them, and he accused officeholders of begging for votes, money and loyalty at election time and then turning their backs on the people once they win.
"What do we have to show for it?" he wrote. John Washington III said he is done fighting to save political careers while everyday Americans struggle to protect their rights and freedoms, and he stated plainly that politicians' own political battles are not the public's responsibility.
His closing framed his own candidacy against that record. "I'm fighting for the people, not politicians who forgot who they work for," he wrote. "You work for us. We don't work for you." John Washington III is a candidate for president in 2028, and he signed the statement with a refrain he uses often: "The people come first. Period."
