Bears Close Week 8 With a Statement: Chicago Beats the Champion Seahawks 34-17 on Monday Night (Fort Myers Watch News)

SEATTLE — The Chicago Bears closed Week 8 the way contenders are supposed to close it. D'Andre Swift rushed for three second-half touchdowns and Chicago beat the defending champion Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night at Lumen Field, the Bears' third straight win since Caleb Williams returned from a hamstring injury. Williams was 24-of-34 for 247 yards and a touchdown — a touchdown pass on the opening drive, no turnovers, one sack taken — against one of the league's stingiest defenses, and Chicago improved to 6-2.

Chicago led 13-9 at halftime, the Seattle points coming on a Jason Myers field goal and Sam Darnold's 43-yard touchdown strike to Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the final minute of the half. Swift's 1-yard touchdown run with 5:38 left in the third made it 20-9, and when Darnold answered with a 7-yard touchdown to Cooper Kupp and a two-point conversion to Tory Horton that pulled Seattle within 20-17, the game had its moment. It lasted one drive of Chicago's choosing: Swift scored from 5 yards out with 8:28 to play, and after Darnold was intercepted in the fourth quarter, Swift scored from 5 yards again with 4:41 left to finish it at 34-17.

Darnold finished 17-of-34 for 188 yards with two touchdowns, the one interception and three sacks taken; Smith-Njigba caught six passes for 118 yards and the score. Seattle, which entered the night with the NFL's best Monday Night Football winning percentage (.711, 32-13), falls to 4-4 and has lost three of its last four. Chicago leaves Seattle within reach of the NFC North lead and carrying the week's loudest result into the second half of the season.
