Boca Grande's Wheeler Road Park Gets Its Ribbon Cutting November 13 — Two New Tennis Courts, Three New Pickleball Courts
The $1.7 million Lee County renovation at 305 Wheeler Road has been open since June. The county celebrates it officially at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 13 — and the farmers market returns to the park a week later.

Boca Grande — Lee County will officially celebrate the rebuilt Wheeler Road Community Park at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 13, with a public ribbon cutting for a $1.7 million renovation that replaced the park's two aging tennis courts and added three new pickleball courts, according to the Boca Beacon. The courts have been open since June; the ceremony makes it official.
The project did more than resurface courts. It added parking, sidewalks, fencing, lighting and shade structures, built a larger restroom, and repainted the shade structures at the neighboring Boca Grande Dog Park. The two tennis courts it replaced dated to 2006. The final design was itself a compromise: an earlier county plan would have converted one of the island's only public tennis courts to pickleball, and after residents objected, the county revised the plan to keep both tennis courts and find a separate area for the pickleball courts.
Wheeler Road stays busy after the ceremony. The Boca Grande Farmers Market returns to the park for its 2026-27 season on Friday, November 20. The park sits at 305 Wheeler Road on Gasparilla Island, and parking there is free.
