Captiva Residents Get Their Say on the Island's Stormwater Study at a November 10 County Meeting

Lee County Natural Resources brings the Captiva Island Stormwater Study to the Captiva Civic Center on Tuesday, November 10 at 5 p.m. — a presentation, maps, a Q&A with county staff and the study's consultant, and comment cards that feed directly into a draft funded by disaster-recovery dollars.

On Captiva, stormwater is not an abstraction — it is the difference between a road that drains and a road that floods. Lee County Natural Resources is inviting Captiva residents and stakeholders to help shape the Captiva Island Stormwater Study at a public meeting on Tuesday, November 10, at 5 p.m. at the Captiva Civic Center, 11550 Chapin Lane.

The evening runs on a working format: a presentation at 5:15 p.m., then maps, a question-and-answer session and open discussion with county staff and the study's consultant. Comment cards will be available, and the county says the feedback gathered there could directly inform the draft study — the stage at which routes, priorities and fixes are still movable.

The study is funded through disaster-recovery dollars and is expected to be finalized by the end of 2026. For an island that took Hurricane Ian's surge directly and still manages chronic tidal and rain flooding on its low roads, the November 10 meeting is the scheduled chance to put specific streets, ditches and trouble spots on the record before the plan hardens.
