DeSantis's Closing Message to Florida Voters: Show Up Tuesday — and Vote Yes on the Amendment 3 Property-Tax Cut
In a closing video message for the Republican Party of Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis urged Republicans to vote on Election Day and backed Amendment 3, which would raise the homestead exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028. The amendment needs 60 percent — and recent polling cited in state reporting has it short of that mark.

Governor Ron DeSantis spent his closing message of the 2026 campaign on the two things he cannot do himself: vote, and pass a constitutional amendment. In a video statement released by the Republican Party of Florida, the term-limited governor urged Republicans to turn out on Election Day. 'We've got to keep the momentum going,' he said. 'Please vote Republican on Tuesday.' Florida has not elected a Democratic governor since Lawton Chiles in 1994, and Republican U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds is trying to extend that streak against Democrat David Jolly.
The governor's sharpest ask was for Amendment 3. 'Vote yes on Amendment Three to lower your property taxes, do not give the Democrats an inch,' DeSantis said. The measure would increase the homestead exemption for non-school property taxes to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028 — a change that would land directly on the tax bills of homesteaded homeowners in Lee County and across Florida. Constitutional amendments in Florida require 60 percent approval, a supermajority that has killed popular measures before.
That threshold is the amendment's problem: according to a recent poll cited in state reporting, Amendment 3 is polling short of 60 percent heading into Election Day. Property-tax relief has been the governor's signature closing argument, and Tuesday's result will decide whether the exemption jump becomes law or dies within a few points of the line. Polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
