Clemson beat Florida State 36-24 on Saturday in what was once the ACC's marquee matchup, a result that dropped the Seminoles to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference — last place in the 17-team ACC standings, according to USA TODAY's live Week 9 update, posted at 10:48 p.m. Saturday.

Clemson improved to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the ACC with the win. Florida State closes its conference road slate next Saturday at Boston College at noon, while Clemson travels to Syracuse.

At the top of the league, No. 1 Miami stayed unbeaten — but barely. The Hurricanes trailed North Carolina with eight minutes to play on Saturday before rallying for a 38-35 win in Chapel Hill, reaching 8-0, USA TODAY reported. Miami's road does not ease: the Hurricanes travel to No. 6 Notre Dame next Saturday night.

Elsewhere in the ACC on Saturday, Syracuse upset SMU 30-27, Duke routed Boston College 47-2, Louisville beat Stanford 52-24, Wake Forest overwhelmed Virginia 51-7, and NC State beat Cal 31-10, per USA TODAY's Week 9 scoreboard.
