Two Fort Myers Residents Killed in Halloween-Night Crash on Alligator Alley, FHP Says
An 18-year-old driver and her 29-year-old passenger died at the scene after their Camry hit a parked U-Haul and then a BMW on Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 45, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Two Fort Myers residents were killed Halloween night in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 on Alligator Alley, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release reported Sunday by the News-Press. The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, just west of Mile Marker 45 in Broward County, on the cross-state corridor that carries Fort Myers and Naples drivers to Florida's east coast.
According to FHP, an 18-year-old woman was driving a 2018 Toyota Camry eastbound in the outside lane with a 29-year-old man as her passenger when she failed to maintain control of the car and traveled off the road to the right. The Camry's front hit the back of a U-Haul truck that was parked on the outside paved shoulder, redirecting the Camry into the path of a 2019 BMW X5 traveling in the inside lane. The Camry's left front struck the BMW's right side, propelling the BMW in a northeast direction and causing it to overturn, FHP said. Both occupants of the Camry were pronounced dead at the scene. The highway patrol's release did not name them.
The U-Haul's sole occupant, a 40-year-old West Palm Beach man, suffered minor injuries. The BMW's driver, 19, had minor injuries, while his passenger, a 37-year-old woman, suffered serious bodily injuries; both are from Port Charlotte, the release said. The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
