Tampa — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won a football game on Sunday without completing a pass, and it was not close. In pouring rain at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay beat the Atlanta Falcons 16-0 behind a franchise-record 324 rushing yards, becoming the first NFL team to win without a completion since Buffalo did it on September 29, 1974, Reuters reported. Baker Mayfield attempted three passes and completed none.
Bucky Irving carried 27 times for a career-high 170 yards and scored the game's only touchdown on a 4-yard run in the third quarter, and Kenny Gainwell added a career-high 140 yards on the ground as Tampa Bay ran the ball 56 times. Chase McLaughlin kicked three field goals. Atlanta quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed just 8 of 24 passes for 125 yards and threw four interceptions. Tampa Bay improved to 3-5 and pulled within a half-game of first place in the NFC South; Atlanta fell to 3-5.
Jacksonville's afternoon was louder. The Jaguars led 28-0 at halftime and beat the Indianapolis Colts 42-7 at EverBank Stadium, according to the Florida Times-Union's game coverage. Trevor Lawrence completed 10 of 14 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns, including a 12-yarder to Brian Thomas Jr. that capped a 98-yard drive and a 31-yarder to Nate Boerkircher. Bhayshul Tuten ran for a 39-yard touchdown on his way to more than 100 rushing yards, and Rayuan Lane III returned an interception 92 yards for a score. Jacksonville is 5-2; Indianapolis, which got its only touchdown on a Daniel Jones pass to Josh Downs, fell to 2-6. Florida's third team, Miami, hosted New England in the late window — that game was still in progress at press time.
