John Washington III Says Judges Must Put the Constitution and the People First

John Washington III Says Judges Must Put the Constitution and the People First (Fort Myers Watch News)

John Washington III is questioning whether state judges put the Constitution first. In a written statement, John Washington III noted that state judges are bound by the U.S. Constitution and, in Texas, also swear to uphold the state constitution — and he asked why the constitution that should come first gets overlooked.

"I'm asking why people walk into court again and again and feel their constitutional rights don't get a fair look," John Washington III wrote. "I'm asking why outcomes can feel pre-decided. I'm asking why loyalty to an office seems to matter more than loyalty to the people."

John Washington III framed the issue as a conflict of interest. "They ask for your vote, then serve their office instead of the people," he wrote. "That's not justice. That's not acceptable. The people deserve judges who put the constitution and the people first."
