Sanibel's Aerial Road Surveys Begin Monday Along the Gulf Drives, Rabbit Road and Bailey Road
Sanibel's design engineer begins daytime aerial-drone surveys Monday, November 2, gathering road-condition and right-of-way data along the island's main roads to guide future improvement planning.

Before you fix a road, you have to measure it. Sanibel's design engineer begins daytime aerial-drone surveys on Monday, November 2, along Rabbit Road; West, East and Middle Gulf drives; Donax Street; Bailey Road; Dixie Beach Boulevard; and Bowmans Beach Road, the city has notified residents.
The work is in the design phase: the surveys gather road-condition and right-of-way data that will guide future improvement planning for the island's arterial and collector roads. It is measurement, not construction — the data collected from the air this week is what later road projects will be designed from.
The city does not expect widespread traffic disruption, but crews may be working near roads and shared-use paths, and drivers and path users are asked to give them room. Questions about the survey work go to Sanibel Public Works at (239) 472-6397.
