Three Oaks Parkway Extension Opens Today: Ribbon Cutting at 10 A.M. Completes Lee County's North-South Corridor (Fort Myers Watch News)

Today is opening day for one of Lee County's most anticipated roads. The county holds a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Monday for the Three Oaks Parkway Extension, and once the ribbon is cut the new road officially opens to north-south traffic in one of the highest-volume areas of Fort Myers, the News-Press reported.

The Lee County Department of Transportation project extends Three Oaks Parkway across the Fiddlesticks Canal to Daniels Parkway, completing the Three Oaks Parkway corridor. The corridor provides a major arterial alternative to Interstate 75, running from Daniels Parkway south through the Village of Estero and the City of Bonita Springs into Collier County, and the project is classified as a Tier 1 Capital Improvement Project Priority for the Board of County Commissioners.

The new section is a four-lane divided roadway with two 11-foot lanes in each direction, a 5-foot bike lane and a 6-foot sidewalk on each side. Motorists will still see additional work in the area after the ribbon cutting, but the opening itself is ahead of schedule: final completion is now scheduled for early 2027, against an original contract completion of mid-2028, according to the county.
