Sanibel Drivers, Plan Ahead: Roadside Trimming Starts Tuesday, and an Island-Wide Mulching Project Follows November 7–20 (Fort Myers Watch News)

Two rounds of city work will share Sanibel's roads with drivers over the next three weeks. First, vegetation trimming along Sanibel Captiva Road, from Gulf Pines Drive to Blind Pass, runs Tuesday, November 3 through Friday, November 13, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The city says one lane of the road may be intermittently closed during the work, including along the Shared Use Path, and drivers should expect delays.

Then, on Saturday, November 7, the Sanibel Public Works Department begins an island-wide mulching and landscape beautification project, expected to run through Friday, November 20, weather permitting. Crews will work the landscape beds along Periwinkle Way from the Lighthouse area to Tarpon Bay Road, along Palm Ridge Road, and throughout the city's public beach parks.

The city does not expect major disruption from the mulching, but warns that minor delays are possible as delivery trucks and equipment move through work areas, especially with island visitation rising. Motorists are asked to slow down near crews, watch for vehicles entering and leaving the roadway, follow temporary traffic directions, and allow extra travel time. Questions go to Sanibel Public Works at (239) 472-6397.
